Gish & Siamese Dreams reissues to include bonus CD and a DVD

Billy tweeted that both the Gish and Siamese Dream reissues will include printed song lyrics along with a bonus CD and a DVD!
The first reissue is expected to be released on November 15th.

Are the Smashing Pumpkins’ archive doors about to open?

This evening the Smashing Pumpkins have asked people on twitter & facebook to follow the official Smashing Pumpkins twitter page for “tips on how to get free, never release music from the massive SP archives” as well as tour updates. As you may know, the Pumpkins have had a lot of work going on in the archives and it looks like now is the time for some releases to shortly show their notes.

“WOW”

Billy is pretty excited about the transfer of Siamese Dreams to 24bit/96k, leaving him only to describe the unmastered Siamese Dream mixes as WOW!

In addition Billy has listen to the Gish master tapes.

The Smashing Pumpkins Archive Project

Today Billy posted  a note on Kerry Brown’s blogspot on how the project is going. Here are some things that piqued my interest right away but please read the entire post here

Most of the materials would be of little interest to the mainstream fan, but the beauty is we can release these ideas and snippets if we can find the right way to do so. If I had to make a choice today, it would probably be something along the lines of outline the project, and see who might want to buy in with a guarantee that they are assured a limited edition pressing….

I get motivated when I think about a 20 album vinyl set of my demos from 1985-1994, even if only 500 fans wanted every one, because it means together we get to make something permanent that requires love, and a cover photo, and some liner notes, etc. In essence it is motivating to share more than just a digital file; to make art.

I came across a tape the other day where I had played live, right onto an 8 track recorder, 5 songs acoustic, ‘Rocket’ being one of them. This version I know has never been bootlegged out. But I also found on that same tape 2 unknown songs which are half-written, with me kind of faking lyrics as I often do when I’m writing a song.

(then) provide those half-baked versions on the SP facebook page for everyone to enjoy a lost moment in time.

Kerry Brown helps with the reissue process for Gish & Siamese Dream

Kerry Brown tweeted that he will be listening to every alternative Gish & Siamese Dream mix at Capitol Records. As you could imagine, he will be spending many hours there. We wish him the best of luck!

Updates: Kerry arrived at Capitol Records today and has finished transferring all the I Am One mixes & Bury Me. The official SP twitter released a video of Tristessa being transfered over.

It appears that Gish has been transfered and now on day 2 it’s time for Siamese Dream.
Day 2 starts with one last transfer of I am One and then onto SD.

The many versions of Rocket  and apparently all of the SD outtakes are being transfered. But in typical Smashing Pumpkins style one of the tape machines broke. But the next tape machine is up and transferring Mayonnaise.

And on the 3rd day Today has is being transfered.

Billy has updated us on the status of the Archive project here

Billy mention in a tweet today that some “4 track demo transfers and checking 63 gish/siamese era 8 track tapes (over 250 titles)” and Kerry Brown plans to update us with more info today.

In addition to a bonus disc with each reissue album there will be a digital boxset with additional tracks with “no limitations”

Billy replied to a fan that asked about releasing 24bit/96k mixes that Billy was wowed by. Billy said “we are discussing releasing the unmastered 24bit/96k mixes for fans to hear the original tapes in all their glory.”

Billy has found a copy of “frail and bedazzled” w/o vox or and a different arrangement. He also is listening to the 1st Smashing Pumpkin show that was record on multi track. He may release the setlist.

Billy continues to listen to the archive which mastering engine Bob Ludwig has been working on apparently.

Kerry continues to work on the Smashing Pumpkins archive project, assigning tracks to audio  to recording from soundworks.

Kerry is apparently now is hunting down unreleased Pisces Iscariot tracks.

SPRC will included more then digital downloads. It will also include posters, vinyls CD’s, and more.
